What people ask us most
Where is the winery and where do Mateo Nieves wines come from?
Mateo Nieves is the brand of Bodegas Enrique Mateo, part of the Mateo Wines group. The vineyards lie in the Ribera del Duero, in the province of Segovia, between 950 and 1,025 metres — one of the highest areas of the appellation.
Which wines make up the collection?
Five reds: Tinto Fino (young, unoaked), Roble (6 months in barrel), Crianza (12 months), Selección Especial (18 months, IGP Castilla y León) and Monastrell 12 Meses.
Which grape varieties are used?
Tempranillo — locally tinto fino — in Tinto Fino, Roble, Crianza and Selección Especial. Monastrell 12 Meses is made from 100% Monastrell.
How long do the wines spend in barrel, and what kind?
Between 6 and 18 months depending on the wine, always in French and American oak. Selección Especial uses medium-toast, fine-grain barrels for 18 months.
How far back does the project go?
The legacy starts in 1898, when Manuel Nieves, Enrique Mateo's great-grandfather, returned from Cuba and tied the family to wine. Enrique Mateo revived that legacy and gave the present winery its name.
Can I buy the wines on this website?
No. This site is informational and has no online shop. Write to info@mateonieves.com and we will tell you where to find each wine or how to visit the winery.
